Wandering scholar

I am in the land of the oil producers.  The place the money flows to, and from.  I feel like the far-flung Arab scholars of 1000 years ago who went to the end of the world, Córdoba, because that was where the money and patronage were, that was where cities and centers of art and learning were made to rise out of nothing. With the difference that this is not the end of the world–it’s pretty much the cradle of civilization, and everyone here knows it.  That said, oil is not going to last forever…

    My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I drive a Mercedes, my son drives a Land Rover, his son will drive a Land Rover, but his son will ride a camel!
